Oh to be more ?

Technology and I continue to do battle on a daily basis.  After each encounter with technology I am left feeling quite inept once again,  wishing I were more, well, more what?  Well, you know, wishing I were more “nept”.  I mean isn’t the opposite of being inept, being nept? How I long to be “nept” at more things, technology among them.  Life would be better for me if I were “nept” at some things that I am currently inept at, such as cooking,  or sewing or business things or fixing things.  So I guess my goal is to be more nept or to acquire more neptness if you will.

This got me to thinking that I’d also like to be more “rascible”.  I mean who wants to be irascible?   That is not a good way to go through life, being quick tempered, testy, crabby, petulant etc.   Who needs that?  So I should definitely strive to be the opposite of irascible, which logically must be “rascible”, right?   I will work on being more rascible at all times.

Next I feel I should seek to be more “mented”.  It is never good to be or to act demented,  so I should definitely pursue the opposite of this, which of course must be to be “mented”.  I must be more mented in my thinking and in my actions.  If being demented is not desirable,  then to be mented  is the desired goal and I will aspire to that.

Lastly, I often feel and find myself to be clueless about any number of things in any number of  commonly occurring situations.  This is particularly true when technology or pop culture are involved, but this trait can manifest at anytime, anywhere, without warning.  The antidote?  I must become “cluefull”.   Instead of going through life without clues, (rendering me the classic clueless)  I must live my life full of clues;  therefore making me cluefull.  Yes, I will attempt to be more cluefull as I go about my days.

So that’s it then.  I will practice neptness,  rascibleness, mentedness and cluefullness everyday as these are good qualities to have that will serve me well.  Now I am reminded of 2 Timothy 3:16-17 which tells me, “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”   and then I recall, 2 Corinthians 9:8 which tells me,  “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

So it seems all I really need in order to live in a way that honors the God I love, is His Word and His grace, both of which He has already given me.  Mine is simply to read and to receive.   And along the way, if my Creator wants me to be nept, rascible, mented and cluefull,   He will help me to become those things that honor Him and reflect His glory.  He has promised to equip me to live for His good purposes.  thank you,  my Heavenly Father.

today’s prayer

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”  (Psalm 19:1)

Lord, today help me to fulfill my purpose, the purpose for which You created me; to reflect Your glory and Your glory alone.  Every sunset and every sunrise reflect Your glory.  At these times the clouds, the water and anything else in view are illuminated in stunning ways, giving these ordinary objects a glory not their own. A glory they did not previously possess, a glory that will disappear with the departure of the source of their transformation or more truly with the giver of the glory.  This glory You give them for a time, in fleeting, temporary moments, heralding the beginning or the ending of another day in Your eternal calendar. Yours is a glory the clouds cannot contain nor sustain nor retain on their own apart from the source, and so it vanishes all too quickly, with the sunset, leaving me longing for more of You whose glory is being reflected.  Merely reflected, not beheld.  (Moses’ face reflected Your glory after he spent time with you, so much so that he covered his face with a veil)  If that is only reflected glory,  Lord what must Your true glory be?  more than I can know or behold and yet You surround me with glimpses of the glory that is Yours and Yours alone today and every day.   Even the glimpses of Your glory are too beautiful for me to behold.  Still, let me reflect Your glory again today and so fulfill Your purpose in creating me.   amen

“everyone who is called by My name, whom I created for My glory, whom I formed and made.”   (Is. 43:7)

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”  (1Cor. 10:31)

“. . . let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”   (Matt. 5:16)

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of His glory.”   (Is. 6:3)

“And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His likeness with ever increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”   (2Cor. 3:18)

sincerely,                 Grace Day
